Exam in Turnitin assignment activity
Turnitin assignment activity can be used for e-exams in MyCourses especially in the following cases:
- Students write essays and a teacher assesses and grades them with help of Turnitin similarity report and feedback tools
- Compared with other activities in MyCourses the benefits of a Turnitin assignment are
- Turnitin similarity report helps you to assess whether students have followed ethics of scientific writing (helps to notice possible plagiarism)
- annotatation (=comment on the text) on different file types is possible
- drag-and-drop reusable phrases
- voice comment up to 3 minutes
- Compared with other activities in MyCourses the benefits of a Turnitin assignment are
- Students do an exam by hand on paper (math, drawing), but submit photos or scanned versions of it - a teacher assesses answers with Turnitin feedback tools
- compared with other activities in MyCourses, the benefits of a Turnitin assignment is that
- annotatation (=comment on the text) on different file types, like a picture file, is possible

Example 1: one text file per student as an exam output
- an essay or several essays per student
- 1 file per student as en exam output
- If students are expected to use different sources for their essay, ask them to
a) use scientific writing style or
b) list references and mark possible direct quotes with quotation marks (use quotes only based on justified reasons)
- the time to answer is limited
- a Turnitin similarity reports are generated automatically on texts after exam is closed. A teacher can interprete them while assessing the essays.
- a teacher can assess exams with reusable phrases, annotating, audios (max 3 minutes per student) or a rubric
- a teacher can give a grade (or grade is automatically calculated based on a rubric) that a student can view both in the inbox as well as in Grades section of the course.

Example 2: Two to five text files per student as an exam output
- A separate answer per each question. The maximum number of questions per exam is 5.
- An exam output per student can be 2-5 text files
- If students are expected to use different sources for their essay, ask them to
a) use scientific writing style or
b) list references and mark possible direct quotes with quotation marks (use quotes only based on justified reasons)
- a Turnitin similarity reports are generated automatically on texts after exam is closed. A teacher can interprete them while assessing the essays.
- A teacher can assess essays per question and give points for each essay
- Furthermore, a teacher can assess essays with reusable phrases, annotating, audios (max 3 minutes per student) or a rubric
- An exam grade is generated automatically based on given points for each essay. A student can view the grade both in the inbox as well as in Grades section of the course.

Example 3: Photos or scanned files of a handwritten exam

- a teacher can annotate (=comment on) files/pictures and give a grade; all assessing tools can be utilised in Turnitin feedback studio

- You can not attach the questions as a file in this field but you can create a link to a file or a page that is available elsewhere in the MyCourses workspace. If you do so, remember to restrict the access to the the file/page only for those doing the exam.
