Aalto Alumni Circle is a networking portal provided by Aalto University to former Aalto University students.

Aalto Blogs

Aalto Blogs is a blog platform for Aalto students and personnel. Any User can read and comment on the blogs published on Aalto Blogs platform without a requirement of registration.

Aalto Exchange (Outlook)

Aalto Exchange (Outlook) provides e-mail and calendar service for Aalto University's users. The calendar can be used as a personal or a shared calendar and enables the user to send invites to meetings. The email and calendar may also be connected to the user’s smartphone, provided that, the smartphones operating system supports it.

Aalto Wiki

Aalto Wiki is a tool for studies, research, teaching and administration.There are two types of wiki work spaces available: personal wiki pages and collaboration wiki pages. Both wiki spaces can be configured to allow or restrict users. Aalto employees can create both personal and collaboration wiki pages as Aalto Wiki’s primary purpose are to support Aalto university courses and personnel. Academia.edu

Academia.edu is an online platform where users can share research papers, track research around specific topics and monitor the impact of research.

Adobe Connect

Adobe Connect (AC) is a browser-based video conferencing platform primarily for personal use. In addition to video conferences, AC is suitable for saving and sending webcasts. For instance, meeting recordings may be shared via AC after a meeting. Video conferences can also be saved for further use. AC is officially used and supported by Aalto University. Alltop

Alltop is a news aggregation service. Users can choose from their area of interest and the service collects news and blogs from numerous different sources into list.

Blogger

Blogger is a blog platform provided by Google. Users with a Google account are able to create their own blogs at the platform. Writing a blog can be a good way to receive publicity to ones thoughts, hobbies and interests.

Box

Box is an online file sharing and synchronizing service. The service enables synchronizing files and folders between different devices. It also provides the possibility to share files with other users.

Creative Commons

Creative Commons is a free service for creators of creative work. Via the service a licensor can choose between six different copyright licenses enabling the licensor to share and let other people use his work. The user can modify the copyright terms of his work from “all rights reserved” to “some rights reserved”. deviantART

DeviantART is a community service where users can upload, view and discuss user created artwork. Art forms include traditional forms such as paintings, sculptures and literature as well as digital forms such as computer graphics, film and Flash.

Doodle

Doodle is a paid service used for timetabling meetings. Some calendar reservations can still be made free of charge, after that service offers monthly paid version. 

Dropbox

Dropbox is a personal cloud storage service that is also used for file sharing and collaboration. Dropbox supports several platforms, such as Microsoft Windows, Apple Mac OS X, Linux, iOS and Android.

Evernote

Evernote enables user to make and save notes, files and images and synchronize them to multiple devices. Notes can be written notes or voice recordings. The service has a search function that covers also handwritten notes and text in pictures. There is both a basic, free-of-charge version and a premium version available.

Facebook

Facebook is a social networking website where users can post comments, share photographs and links to news or orther interesting content on the Web, play games, chat live, and even stream live video. Users must register and create a profile account before using the service. After registration users can communicate with friends, share pictures and join groups. Service can be used for informing purposes.

Flickr is an image hosting and video hosting website. 

Funet FileSender

Funet FileSender is a browser-based application that allows authenticated users to share large files up to several gigabytes to other users. Free to use for all HAKA users / users of FUNET network. Non-HAKA users may share files with a help of an upload voucher from a HAKA user. The service is not suitable for sending confidential files without encryption.

GitHub

GitHub is a web-based hosting service for software development projects.

Gmail

Gmail is a browser based e-mail service provided by Google. The service enables the user to communicate by e-mail. The user is required to create a Google account that can be used with all Google services. Gmail also has a chat and video call function.

Google Analytics

Google Analytics is a service that generates detailed statistics about a website's traffic and traffic sources and measures conversions and sales. Google Analytics can provide the user with reports at regular intervals. Service is put into operation by signing up to a Google account and setting a tracking code to the website.

Google Drive (Aalto)

Aalto offers Google Drive only for public data and information storage. Secret data and personal information is not to be stored in Google Drive.

Google Sites

Google Sites is a wiki- and web page-creation tool. The service may be used for information sharing and collaboration e.g. in team projects, clubs and school projects. A user may designate owners, viewers and collaborators for the site. The content of site can be private, public or public only for a certain group.

iCloud

“iCloud” is Apple's cloud synchronizing service. It works between several platforms such as iOS, OS X, Windows. Service allows user to store data on remote computer servers.

LinkedIn

LinkedIn is a social media platform intended for professional networking. LinkedIn can be used for searching recommended job candidates, industry experts and business partners. On LinkedIn users can create their online CV, connect with other users, follow companies and organizations as well as join groups of their interest. Users are able to endorse and recommend each other. Companies and organizations can publish news and recruiting announcements on the site. LinkedIn offers both a free-of-char

Mendeley

Mendeley is a reference manager and an academic social network. Users can search research data and collaborate online with other users.  

MyCourses

MyCourses is a University owned service. It is a web based service focused on supporting learning and sharing information between participants.

OneDrive (Aalto)

Aalto OneDrive is a file hosting service. The user can upload, store, share and synchronize documents and photos between different devices through the cloud. Editing Microsoft Office documents is also possible through the OneDrive applications or on the browser. Note: Aalto University offers One Drive for all Aalto's users. The OneDrive that Aalto offers, has better terms of use, and therefore is strongly recommended for storing work related documents etc., than privately used services. Read mor

Panopto is a software and media service that is designed to capture, edit, stream, and share video presentations and recorded lectures.

Presemo (Aalto)

Presemo is a fully web-based classroom participation system.

Prezi

Prezi is a cloud-based presentation software that opens up a new world between whiteboards and slides. The zoomable canvas makes it fun to explore ideas and the connections between them. The result: visually captivating presentations that lead your audience down a path of discovery.

ResearchGate

ResearchGate is an online social media platform for researchers. At ResearchGate one can create a personal profile and connect and collaborate with other researchers. Users are able to share their publications, create groups and discuss their work with other users. Users can also create blogs.

Second Life

Second Life is an online virtual world. Users can create an avatar with which they can explore the world and interact with other users. Second Life has also been applied to education in the form of online campuses and lectures.

Sisu

Sisu is the core information system for teaching and studies. Registrations for courses, study register administration and personal study plans are made in Sisu. Teachers can use Sisu for grading, processing registrants for their courses and sending messages to students participating in their courses etc.

SlideShare

SlideShare is a cloud service for slide sharing. Supported file formats are PowerPoint, PDF, Keynote and OpenOffice.

SpiderOak

SpiderOak is an online file storage and backup service. Users can share, sync, access and store data. SpiderOak claims to use a client side encryption key creation, which means that even the service provider cannot access the stored data.

Spotify

Spotify is a music streaming service. It requires client software. Spotify is available for most mobile platforms. Spotify also enables buying DRM-free MP3 files.

Teams (Aalto)

Teams is a collaboration service included in Office 365 in Aalto University.. The user can chat, meet, make and schedule calls, meetings and videos, upload, store, share and synchronize documents and photos between different devices through the cloud. Editing Microsoft Office documents is also possible through the Office 365 applications or via a browser. Also mobile use is supported. TinEye

TinEye is a reverse image search engine. The user can enter an image into the engine and the service finds where it came from, how it is being used, if modified versions or higher resolution versions of the image exist.

Twitter

Twitter is an online social networking and microblogging service. It enables users to send and read "tweets", which are text messages limited to 140 characters, pictures, videos and links to other web-pages. Tweets can be read without registration but to send your own material registration is required.

Vimeo

Vimeo is a video-sharing website. Users can upload, view and share video content.

WebEx

WebEx is an online tool for a real-time web-meetings and training sessions.

Webropol

Webropol is an online analysis and survey tool. The software enables sending of electronic questionnaires and conducting both quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data.

Yammer

Yammer, Inc. is a freemium  social networking service for organizations. Access to a Yammer network is based on user email address, only users who have @aalto,fi address can join to Aalto yammer.

YouTube

Youtube is a video-sharing service provided by Google. The service enables the sharing of video material publicly or privately through a link. Watching videos does not require registration, but in order to upload or comment videos a Google account is needed.

Zoom (Aalto)

Zoom offers communications software that combines video conferencing, online meetings, chat, and mobile collaboration. Zoom is available for staff members and students at Aalto University.
