Call for congress proceedings: Interventions on Art Education

The special issue of Synnyt/Origins: Finnish Studies in Art Education journal is dedicated to the questions of art education and its connections to societal and scientific topics. The main goal of the issue is to stimulate an academic discussion about intercultural and interdisciplinary conversations on most current and burning issues in contemporary art education and to record the inspiring ideas that were presented and discussed by researchers, teachers, artists and project workers during the European InSEA Congress 2018, Interventions, held in Aalto University 18.-21.6.2018.

The editor of the special issue on Interventions on Art Education: Mira Kallio-Tavin

We are inviting the presenters to contemplate the form of submission, which might be based on visual and artistic, perhaps interdisciplinary art and science practices and dialogue. At least three manuscript formats are recommended. The first is a traditional paper as it was presented at the Conference. The second is a longer, developed version of the conference paper, with a length of approximately 5,000 words. The third is a nontraditional format, such as a visual essay. It is at the discretion of authors to determine how nontraditional media, including video and performances, can be translated effectively for a digital journal. For example, how to translate time-based media into a journal format.

Please email copies of manuscripts as Word documents (please, no PDF) to the editor at, by 22 October, 2018. We will notify authors of the status of their manuscripts together with comments by 30 November, 2018, and authors will have until 30 December, 2018 to submit revised manuscripts. The projected publication is the February 2019 issue of the journal.
