Lauri Savioja continues as the Head of Department

Professor Lauri Savioja has been reappointed as the Head of Department for the Department of Computer Science. This means that he will continue working as the Head of Department for years 2020–2022.

Professor or Associate/Assistant Professor in Artificial and Human Intelligence

Call for nomination is open until Friday 8 November!

Which teacher made you become interested in a subject you never knew you would? Who helped you learn things you thought were out of your reach? Who was the most motivated teacher? Whose teaching methods made you eager to learn more?

Nominate the teacher of the year 2019 in the Department of Computer Science! The department awards the best teacher of the year annually.


Call for nominations is open until Monday 11 November! 

SCI Awards celebrates the great work and achievements of our faculty, staff and students annually. If there’s someone from our department, or from elsewhere in the university community, that you want to see celebrated with this prize, then please take a few minutes to nominate them.

SCI Awards will be granted in the following categories in 2019:

Nominate your candidate for the Young Researcher Entrepreneur of 2019 prize by the KAUTE foundation. The Young Researcher Entrepreneur prize is 5000 euros and awarded to a person who has developed a new research-based business. The aim of the prize is to promote researchers in Finnish Universities to start new companies. The prize may be awarded to a person who is under 40 years old, works as a full-time entrepreneur, and has a new business based on research.

Seasonal influenza vaccine autumn 2019

Aalto University offers to the faculty and staff the seasonal influenza vaccine, the vaccine is free of charge until Thursday 5 December 2019. The Occupational Health Care uses Vaxigriptetra in vaccine. If you have Kela card take it along when going to take the vaccine.

Recreational activities


CS has a board game night every Thursday starting at 18:00 in A2 coffee room

Many games start at 18:00, but if you come by anytime you'll eventually find a game. Just drop by - if you are new someone will help you. Bring some games if you have them, otherwise we have plenty already.

Organizer: contact for questions. Announcements go to the informal-cs mailing list, sign up there (here) to get them. But also realize that this is self-organized: if you don't know what to do, make it up.
