Objective
Design and build a prototype to detect heart rate from a person staying still, based on an inertial sensor attached to person’s chest.
This includes the hardware design, sensor, signal processing and wireless software as well as a user interface application.
Summary of results
+All objectives were met
+Technology works (measuring heart rate using accelerometer data)
+Prototype could easily be further developed into smaller size
•Requires new PCB and mechanics designs
•We can utilize the same sensor and microcontroller units and software
−Does not yet work universally on every person
−Does not tolerate much movement of the person
•Requires research and medical know-how to find the correct spots to measure from
•Requires more sophisticated signal processing (FFT, Kalman filter), memory and processing power
